  • Ford has also increased AC charging speeds from 11 kW to 22 kW and DC speeds from 115 kW to 180 kW.
  • The new E-Transit extended range can travel up to 250 miles on a single charge.
  • No less than 19 different E-Transit variants are offered in Europe.

Just six weeks after the U.S.-spec Ford E-Transit was updated for 2024, the carmaker has rolled out similar updates to the large electric van in Europe. As it did in the U.S., Ford has boosted the van’s range with a new battery pack and will start customer deliveries in 2025.

The new battery, with 89 kWh of usable capacity, comes standard in the E-Transit extended range model. This new battery boosts Europe’s best-selling large electric van range up to 402 km (250 miles), a significant 28% jump over the standard range model. Ford says it has designed the extended range model for fleets operating in rural regions, colder climates, and near routes with lots of highway driving.

Buyers won’t just be able to enjoy improved range with the new E-Transit but also quicker charging. The extended range model’s AC charge capability has been increased from 11 kW to 22 kW, allowing the van to fully charge in less than six hours. The van’s DC fast charging capabilities have also been boosted from 115 kW to 180 kW, meaning a 10-minute charge can add up to 116 km (72 miles) of range. Topping the battery up from 10-80% also takes just 28 minutes.

Ford has also fitted a heat pump as standard on the extended range model that promises to heat the cabin more efficiently in cold conditions.

The E-Transit extended range comes with all of the same other features as the rest of the 2024 line-up. This includes a 5G modem as standard, wireless software updates, an Alexa built-in AI assistant, and Delivery Assist technology that claims to help save up to 20 seconds per stop.

Europeans Have A New Ford E-Transit Extended Range With A 89 kWh Pack

All told, European shoppers have 19 E-Transit variants to choose from, including vans and chassis cab variants. The Ford Pro Power Onboard system can also be installed, allowing 2.3 kW of power from the battery pack to be used to power tools and other equipment. For 2024, Ford has also introduced two-year/unlimited distance service intervals.

An important new addition to the range is a factory-supported electric minibus conversion for the E-Transit. This version has been designed to suit taxi companies, schools, and local authorities and can seat up to 15 people. It is converted in Turkey and will be available directly from Ford dealers.
