Realizing you’re no longer in control of the car you’re driving is one of the worst feelings imaginable. However, experiencing this sensation from the driver’s seat of a new Porsche 911 GT3 RS that starts from $241,300 (though, good luck finding one for that price as we’ve seen examples listed closer to half-a-million) elevate that feeling to a whole new level, especially if you’re watching a river rapidly approaching.
That was the harrowing experience recently faced by someone in Washington state, as the 911 GT3 RS they were driving careened into the Snoqualmie River. Photos that surfaced on Facebook and Reddit show temporary license plates on the car at the time of the crash, suggesting the driver had recently acquired the vehicle and was likely waiting for permanent registration and plates.

While the circumstances leading up to the crash remain a mystery (we’ve reached out to the posters and will update this post if and when they get back to us), the images of the aftermath shared on a Facebook group show that the 911 GT3 RS ended up fully submerged in the river. Fortunately, one of the photographers, Jason Rich, reports that the driver was okay, despite receiving a blow to the head.
Based on what the track-focused special looked like once it had been extracted from the river, the driver was lucky to make it out alive. From dry land, we can see that the Porsche suffered significant damage at the front, losing its driver-side wheel and fender.

In addition, the 911 GT3 RS also suffered damage at the rear end. The bodywork above the rear wheel is so deformed that the fender touches the tire. A chunk of the rear wing also appears to have broken off in the crash.

Unfortunately for the Porsche, things aren’t looking promising, as the process of extraction from the river appears to have been quite challenging. Given that the car plunged into the water in an unexpected place, it had to be dragged out over some large boulders, which may have caused even more damage.
Although it sucks to see a dream car end up in the river like this, it’s a sobering reminder that high-performance machines need to be respected. The Porsche 911 GT3 RS’s 518 hp (386 kW / 525 PS), naturally aspirated flat-six is a lot to handle, especially on public roads though for all we know, the driver may have an incident or something else
