  • Bugatti has introduced the new Baby II Type 35 Centenary Edition.
  • The scale cars draw inspiration from the Type 35s that debuted at the Grand Prix de Lyon in 1924.
  • Production is limited to six units and they have a 13 hp electric motor.

Bugatti is no stranger to pumping out special editions as they’ve created everything from a porcelain-infused Veyron Grand Sport to the exquisite W16 Mistral. However, their latest special edition is notably smaller as it’s the Baby II Type 35 Centenary Edition.

Created in collaboration with The Little Car Company, the model celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Type 35’s debut at the Grand Prix de Lyon in 1924. While the car wasn’t victorious at the race, Bugatti noted the “Type 35 went on to achieve over 2,500 victories and podium finishes across a 10-year period, becoming the most successful racing car of all time.”

They’re now honoring that legacy with a new special edition that is based on the range-topping Baby II Pur Sang. Each features a hand-built aluminum body with a livery inspired by the six Type 35 racecars. As a result, they have a Bleu de Lyon exterior with hand-painted Blanc entry numbers on the radiator, hood, and boat tail.

Moving inside, we can see a black leather seat, a wood rimmed steering wheel, and a machined dash that features a brass identification plate. The latter has a chassis number that matches one of the original cars.

The 75% scale vehicles have a 2.8 kWh battery pack and an electric motor that develops up to 13 hp (10 kW / 14 PS). While that’s not much, it’s enough to enable the car to hit speeds of up to 42 mph (68 km/h)

Production is limited to six units and all of them have already been spoken for. That’s unfortunate, but Bugatti International Managing Director Wiebke Ståhl said: “With meticulous attention to detail, these anniversary examples are individually customized, reflecting the very essence of the brand’s historic racing pedigree whilst showcasing an unparalleled level of craftsmanship. They are beautiful one-of-a-kind masterpieces embodying the spirit of the Type 35.”
