Future Cadillac EVs To Take Design Inspiration From Recent Concepts

Cadillac will take inspiration from a host of concepts in designing its forthcoming electric vehicles.

Like many other established automakers, Cadillac is transitioning into an all-electric brand and has unveiled a handful of intriguing concept cars forming part of its Halo Concept Portfolio, representing its vision for 2030. These concepts consist of a flying car, an autonomous van, and a unique two-seater autonomous EV dubbed the InnerSpace Concept, all of which will influence future production cars from Cadillac.

In creating the recently-revealed InnerSpace Concept, Cadillac looked beyond traditional body styles and wanted to establish a ‘space’ that suits the autonomous characteristics of the car. With this in mind, it has the ability to use biometric data to sense the mood of occupants and uses this information to determine the appropriate driving mode, audio choice, lighting options, and even the scent, Auto News notes.

“We’re continuing to build on the big idea of effortless travel through extraordinary means and inspiring our designers to be bold,” GM vice president of global design Mike Simcoe said when unveiling the concept at CES. “[It] was developed for our demanding world, where intimacy and relaxation have become precious and rare commodities. InnerSpace puts human wellness and connection at the center of a driverless environment, allowing two passengers to focus on their journey.”

While Cadillac will not bring a version of the InnerSpace Concept to the market, it will influence the design of future EVs, creative interior design manager for General Motors’ advanced design team, Joe Baker, said.

“They’re expecting something radically different,” he said referring to customers. “We really need to try to have a bit of a sea change in how to approach them and the sort of products that we provide for them.”

Cadillac is gearing up to start deliveries of the all-electric Lyriq in the coming months and will follow it up with the Celestiq, a luxurious electric sedan that will sit at the top of its line-up.
