Mercedes-AMG introduced the redesigned SL in October and now attention is turning to the revamped GT.
Since the two models were developed alongside one another, it would have been easy for the company to slap on a fixed roof and call it a day. However, that’s not the case as there are a handful of other styling touches that help to distinguish the GT from its convertible counterpart.
That’s particularly true up front as the GT features a Panamericana grille that appears to be positioned lower than on the SL. It’s flanked by unique headlights and what appears to be more aggressive intakes.

Moving further back, we can see streamlined bodywork and a prominent shoulder line. The model also sports flush-mounted door handles and a rakish windscreen that flows into a sloping roof. The prototypes have also been outfitted with lightweight wheels that are backed up by a high-performance braking system, which features ventilated discs as well as colored calipers.
Out back, designers gave the GT a unique appearance thanks to slender taillights that are smaller than those found on the SL. We can also see a curvaceous rear bumper and two different exhaust systems.
Engine options are expected to carryover from the SL and this means we can expect a GT 55 with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 developing 469 hp (350 kW / 476 PS) and 516 lb-ft (699 Nm) of torque. Customers can also expect a GT 63 with an upgraded V8 pumping out 577 hp (430 kW / 585 PS) and 590 lb-ft (799 Nm) of torque. In the SL, they’re paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission and an AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system.
Additional powertrains should be offered in the future as Mercedes has already confirmed the SL will gain an E Performance hybrid that “further enhances driving dynamics while also being highly efficient.” There could also be a new GT Black Series, but that remains unconfirmed at this point.
