LEGO’s New Back To The Future DeLorean Time Machine Set Is For All You Kids Over 18

LEGO’s New Back To The Future DeLorean Time Machine Set Is For All You Kids Over 18

When Back To The Future was released in 1985, audiences were introduced to an unlikely hero – a 1981 DeLorean DMC-12 modified into a time machine. The film was an instant hit, and the DeLorean Time Machine would go on to be one of the most iconic film vehicles of all time.

We’ve always wanted to build our own Time Machine out of a DeLorean, and now we can thank LEGO’s latest Back To The Future kit for making that possible. The 1,872 piece set features incredible detail which fans of the films are sure to appreciate.

Not only is this an accurate model of a DeLorean, but the Time Machine parts have also been faithfully replicated, with cooling stacks out the rear, correct dashboard clock dates, removable lightning-pole, and even a light-up Flux Capacitor.

The set includes additional pieces to build the DeLorean into the different variants showcased throughout the three movies. For the second movie, the kit is upgraded with a Mr. Fusion reactor to replace the plutonium-powered unit of the original, and the wheels can be pointed down to for flight mode. To build the Time Machine as the model from the third movie, red-painted wheels with chrome hubcaps are included along with “backdated” time circuits strapped to the hood.

Marty and Doc Brown have been recreated as minifigures, as have their accessories, such as a hoverboard, a box of plutonium, and swappable licence plates.

Over 18, really?

The set is listed for ages 18+, but not because of the subject matter, but because of the kit’s difficulty. We reached out to LEGO about the marking and received this response:

“The reason why it is an 18+ set is due to the fact that the set has been designed for being displayed, more than playing with it,” a sales rep told us.

Despite being for show and display, the kit has wheels that roll, and gullwing doors that open. The only thing the kit can’t do is travel back in time, that’s up to your imagination.

The Back To The Future Time Machine kit will be available on April 1st, 2022, and cost $169.99 / £149.99 / €169.99.
