A handful of new details about the all-electric BMW i7 have emerged online prior to its Beijing Auto Show unveiling on April 20, including the fact that it will be dubbed the i7 xDrive60 in the United States.
While specific horsepower and torque figures of the i7 xDrive60 are not yet known, the EV is widely expected to feature a 120 kWh battery. BMW board member Frank Weber also recently confirmed that the i7 will replace the most powerful variants of the ICE-powered 7-Series. This statement, combined with the fact that the vehicle has ‘60’ in its name, indicates it will be very fast indeed.

BMW has already launched a ‘60’ version of one of its EVs, the iX M60. That model has 619 hp and 811 lb-ft (1,100 Nm) of torque but as it also has an M in its name, will probably remain BMW’s most powerful EV after the i7’s launch. Bimmer Today understands that a full-blown M variant of the i7 could be in the works with previous rumors pointing towards a tri-motor setup with no less than 740 hp.
The German automaker has also confirmed that the i7 xDrive60 will have roughly 300 miles (482 km) of range in the United States.
Recent teaser images of the i7 show that it will sport thin LED daytime running lights and have illuminated kidney grilles. The interior will also be quite distinct from other electric BMW models, most notably thanks to the adoption of a 31-inch screen (32:9 format) for rear passengers that slides out of the headliner. The cabin of the i7 will also feature BMW’s Curved Display as seen on the iX and come complete with the latest generation of the iDrive infotainment system. A large Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof will also be featured.
