When Rivian decided its first production vehicle was going to be a pickup truck, it could have produced an EV to simply rival the Ford F-150 or any other popular truck out there. Instead, Rivian decided its pickup would be an off-roader, marketed towards adventurers looking to escape the city.
We’ve seen countless videos showcasing just how capable the R1T is at climbing up rocky cliffs and the owner of a newly-delivered R1T recently took to YouTube to showcase how his R1T performs in water.

This clip, while only 30-seconds long, was filmed along the Mojave Trail in California and shows the R1T fording a large water crossing. The R1T appears to perform flawlessly even though the water was quite deep, appearing to be up near the top of the wheels.
The R1T can ford water even deeper than this. In fact, Rivian claims it has a wading depth of over 3 feet, allowing it to breeze through tougher water crossings with ease.
In addition to the R1T now arriving in the hands of customers, a host of journalists have also had the opportunity to put it through its paces in recent weeks. Most recently, Jason Cammisa from Hagerty had the opportunity to put it against a Ford F-150 Raptor and a Ram 1500 TRX for a series of drag races. Unsurprisingly, the Rivian proved to be too much for the Ford and Ram to handle, and even when towing a GMC Syclone, the R1T sprinted down the quarter-mile faster than the F-150 Raptor.
