For people who can’t decide whether to buy the fully electric BMW i7 and the ICE-powered 7-Series, BMW Canada makes the choice even more difficult. Unlike in the U.S. where there is a price difference between the electric i7 xDrive60 and the V8-powered 760i xDrive, Canadian buyers are asked to pay the same amount of money for either of those two.
More specifically, in Canada, the sedans are listed for $147,000 CAD ($114,505 USD) before shipping, as Autonews Canada reports. In the U.S. the i7 xDrive60 starts from $119,300, making it more expensive than the 760i xDrive which sells for $113,600, as well as the entry-level 740i at $93,300 (plus a $995 destination charge).

In terms of power, the i7 xDrive60 comes with dual electric motors producing a combined 536 hp (399 kW / 543 PS) and 549 lb-ft (745 Nm) of torque. The 760i xDrive with the mild-hybrid turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 produces an identical 536 hp (399 kW / 543 PS) and a slightly higher 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque although the latter is not available in the entire rpm range as with the electric variant. Still, in the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint, the 760i xDrive takes 4.2 seconds beating the i7 xDrive60’s 4.5 seconds time.
The two luxury sedans are visually distinguished thanks to the version-specific bodykits. The i7 comes with blue accents while the ICE-powered 7-Series looks more aggressive in the pictures thanks to the M Package with larger intakes and quad tailpipes. Note that there is also an optional M Sportpaket for the i7 bringing them even closer in terms of styling.
If you can’t decide whether to go EV or ICE in terms of BMW’s new flagship sedan, there is always the plug-in hybrid M760e xDrive. This has a combined output of 563 hp (420 kW / 571 PS) and 591 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque, although it won’t be available in North America before the second half of 2023.
Both the BMW i7 xDrive60 and the 760i xDrive will reach U.S. and Canadian dealerships in the fourth quarter of 2022. Potential buyers can already reserve their i7 with a deposit of $5,000 CAD ($3,895 USD) in Canada and $1,500 USD in the States. So, if you had the money, which one would you go for?
