Abarth Celebrates 40th Anniversary Of 131 Rally’s Final Race With 695 Tributo Special Edition

Abarth today revealed its latest creation, a new version of the 695 that pays tribute to the brand’s racing success. A tribute to the Abarth 131 Rally, the car celebrates the 40th anniversary of the rally legend’s final official race.

The Abarth 131 Rally was launched in 1976 for Group 4 competition and raced for six years in the World Rally Championship, earning 18 victories at international rallies, three World Constructors’ Championships, two FIA Cup for Rally Drivers’ titles with Markku Alen, and a World Drivers’ Championship with Walter Rohrl.

That’s a big history to honor, so Abarth has fitted the 695 Tributo 131 Rally with a 1.4-liter T-jet engine that makes 177 hp (132 kW/180 PS) and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) of torque at 3,000 RPM. That allows the car to get up to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.7 seconds and onto a top speed of 225 km/h (140 mph). The engine is hooked up to the “Record Monza Sovrapposto” exhaust system to ensure it sounds as raucous as it feels.

In order to bring it all to a stop, the car gets Brembo four-piston calipers and 305 mm discs at the front, with 240 mm ventilated discs at the rear. Koni FSD shock absorbers at both axles, meanwhile, help it get around a corner, as does the rather large spoiler at the back. Officially called the “Spoiler ad Assetto Variabile,” it is, as the name suggests, variable and can go into any one of 12 positions from 0 to 60 degrees. At its steepest angle, the spoiler generates an additional 42 kg (93 lbs) of downforce at 200 km/h (124 mph), helping keep the car firmly planted on the tarmac.

Beyond driving like a violent little rally car from the ’70s, the Abarth 695 Tributo 131 Rally also has a unique look inspired by the car. A new three-layer shade of “Blue Rally” is a modern interpretation of the original’s hue. The roof, pillars, and details, meanwhile, are painted Scorpion Black. For those who prefer a single-tone vehicle, it can be had in either Rally Blue or Record Grey. Inside, finally, Abarth gives buyers an Alcantara dashboard and Sabelt fabric seats with blue inserts and stitching.

Prices have not yet been revealed, but those who want one should hurry up and order it because Abarth will build just 695 of these 695 Tributo 131 Rally special editions.
