It might not seem that long ago, but the VW ID.3 debuted in September 2019, which means it will already be four years old next year, making it a great time for a mid-lifecycle update. Indeed, a facelifted ID.3 is reportedly set to arrive in 2023, with the addition of a hot GTX variant in the range as a production version of the VW ID.X Concept.
The news was shared with journalists by VW spokesperson Martin Hube. Hube confirmed the arrival of the ID.3 GTX with increased power output and all-wheel-drive, as a member of the facelifted ID.3 model range in 2023.
Martin Hube said to Auto Express: “Of course, the project is progressing. For the ID.3 facelift, we will get some very interesting details and of course, we are convinced that customer’s expectations for a bit more power, for all-wheel drive, is there, and the customer’s wish is what we have to fulfill.”

The ID.3 GTX was greenlighted for production in September 2021, a few months after VW CEO Ralf Brandstätter revealed the ID.X concept in a social media post. The electric hot hatch promised as much as 329 hp (245 kW / 333 PS), with the VW CEO then saying that the final production version will be less powerful.
The model will be sharing its dual-motor powertrain with the ID.4 GTX and ID.5 GTX SUVs, which have a combined output of 295 hp (220 kW / 299 PS) and a battery capacity of 77 kWh. This level of power would place the ID3.X between the ICE-powered Golf GTI and Golf R. Due to its lower weight, smaller and more aerodynamic body, the electric hatchback will be slightly faster and more nimble than VW’s electric SUVs, which offer a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 6.2 and 6.3 seconds respectively. The ID.3 GTX is also expected to feature beefier brakes and a model-specific chassis setup for a more dynamic driving experience.
We still don’t have any specific information on the “interesting” updates of the facelifted ID.3. Expect to see minor visual tweaks since Volkswagen has always been a supporter of subtle facelifts. New headlight graphics and a more generous standard kit in the entry-level models could be the case, alongside new trim options and upgraded infotainment/connectivity features. VW is already offering over-the-air updates for the entire ID range of models.
