C8 Corvette Dives Through Miami Flood Water Like A Scuba Champ

The mid-engined layout of the C8 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray hasn’t just transformed it into a legitimate rival to European supercars and as it turns out, also makes it quite handy in flood waters.

A handful of videos have started to emerge on social media that show a black C8 Corvette being driven through a flash flood in Miami and remarkably, appearing to make it out unscathed. It really has to be seen to be believed.

Most of the videos we’ve been able to find were shared to Instagram and Reddit. One of these videos was filmed in front of the Corvette and shows it crossing a flooded section of road with seemingly very little issue. At times, water covers the entirety of the hood and even splashes across the windshield. It’s such a staggering sight that the driver of a tow truck in the background appears to do a double-take, astonished by what they were witnessing.

A second video shared to Reddit captured the Corvette driver’s bizarre stunt from the side. This clip shows that the entire front fascia of the car was indeed covered in water but that the ‘Vette was being driven at the perfect speed to create a bow wave that ensured the car’s side air intakes didn’t suck up water and hydrolock the mid-mounted 6.2-liter V8.

On first impressions, it may appear as though the Corvette escaped the flood water without any issues. While it’s certainly possible that it did, we’d be shocked if some water hadn’t entered the cabin through the door jams. The storage compartment under the hood has inevitably been filled with water and chances are, the flood water has left a rather unpleasant odor in the sports car.
