Jaguar Reportedly Working On Three New Electric SUVs

Jaguar is reportedly working on three new SUV models, set to launch in a few years’ time based on a new architecture. The SUVs will help Jaguar move upmarket and become an EV-only automaker starting from 2025 when the current model range will be discontinued.

As reported by Autocar, the design of the SUVs will be previewed by a concept car, set to be revealed in late 2024. The Jaguar design team is led by Gerry McGovern who is also in charge of Land Rover’s styling department.

The smaller of the three will have a similar style to the Range Rover Sport, but it will reportedly be offered in three-door and five-door body styles. In addition, Jaguar is working on a new flagship electric SUV model that will be designed to satisfy customer demand in US and China. Inside the cabin, Jaguar will use sustainable materials for the upholstery, like wool, silk, and recycled fabrics, with accents made of ceramics, stone, and glass.

Jaguar’s smaller electric SUV is rumored to cost between £80,000-£120,000 ($97,317-$145,902), while the large flagship model will cost as much as £200,000 ($243,171) in its fully-loaded SVR spec. Jaguar’s goal is to achieve sales of 50,000 to 60,000 units per year, figures comparable to the Range Rover sales in the pre-covid era.

Jaguar’s new aluminum platform, internally named the Panthera, will serve as a base for the trio of SUVs, with single or dual electric motor configurations, 800V technology, and batteries that could be sourced by Envision AESC. The architecture is being developed in collaboration with Magna. It is also expected to offer high levels of autonomous driving capabilities and cloud connectivity, benefiting from the software that is being developed with the help of Nvidia.

The trio of the upcoming Jaguar SUVs will be produced in an extension of the Solihull factory facilities in the UK. With a possible reveal in 2025, we should be seeing camouflaged prototypes of the EVs as early as 2023, revealing more information about their design.
