We’ve seen our fair share of PIT maneuvers over the years, but few are as flawless as the one performed by this deputy from the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia.
In a video uploaded to Facebook, the Sheriff’s Office said they received a Be On The Look Out alert from the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office about a silver Ford Focus [it’s actually a Fusion] with a missing front bumper, a paper tag, and four females inside. The notice went on to say the women were wanted for shoplifting and were last seen heading south on GA400.
Sometime later, a deputy with the Crime Reduction Unit spotted the car “driving erratically” and began following it. The deputy then turned on his lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop.
As you can see in the video, the driver appears caught off-guard, but eventually gets into the right lane. They continue driving and this causes the deputy to hit the sirens a few more times.
The car eventually pulls onto the shoulder and the deputy instructs the driver to exit the vehicle. Instead of complying, she makes a run for it and a short pursuit begins.
However, as they pass an exit ramp, the deputy sees an opportunity to perform a PIT maneuver and takes it. This causes the car to slide onto the grass and the deputy exits, while telling the women to put their hands up. The video then ends with the driver being taken into custody.
The driver, 27-year-old Brenaldia Stephens, was charged with Reckless Driving, Fleeing or Attempting to Elude, and Possession of Marijuana. 23-year-old Marquita Thomas was found with $700 of fake U.S. currency in her purse and she’s been charged with Forgery 2nd degree. Another one of the women, 21-year-old Jasmine Canty, was found to have a warrant out of Gwinnett County for hijacking a motor vehicle. Needless to say, all four are now in big trouble.
