Next-Gen Maserati Quattroporte Will Reportedly Go EV-Only When It Arrives In 2024

The Quattroporte has always been an integral part of Maserati’s lineup as the flagship luxury four-door sedan. This trend will continue in the future as an all-new generation of the Quattroporte will reportedly arrive in 2024, exclusively available in fully electric “Folgore” flavor.

The current sixth-gen Quattroporte was originally introduced back in 2013. Despite the updates and the numerous special editions over the years, the model remains largely unchanged and in need of a clean sheet design. This is exactly what Maserati has in mind for the all-new seventh generation that will become the only sedan offering in the range following the forthcoming demise of the smaller Ghibli that will end production in 2024.

According to Autocar, the new Quattroporte will be based on a stretched version of the GranTurismo’s platform, adopting a longer but still sexy-looking four-door sedan bodystyle. This Maserati-specific architecture will reportedly underpin all future models of the Italian brand. While the platform is also compatible with Maserati’s V6 Nettuno engine, the Quattroporte will reportedly go EV-only. The same is rumored for the next-gen Levante SUV that’s set to arrive in 2025, one year after the sedan.

The GranTurismo Folgore is fitted with a trio of electric motors producing a combined 751 hp (560 kW / 761 PS) and 1,350 Nm (995.7 lb-ft) of torque. The Quattroporte Folgore could be less powerful than that, for a more subtle approach to sportiness. We suspect that the sedan will retain the GranTurismo’s T-bone-shaped 92.5 kWh battery providing it with a decent range and a low center of gravity. The latter will benefit driving dynamics, which has always been a major selling point for the Trident brand alongside luxury and performance.

With a rumored price tag close to £150k ($172k), the new Maserati Quattroporte Folgore is expected to be positioned against the high-spec variants of the BMW i7 and the Mercedes-AMG EQS. While EVs like the Tesla Model S Plaid and the Lucid Air Saphire will probably offer better outright performance for the price, Maserati is a more premium brand, targeting buyers who want a higher level of exclusivity.
