Abarth New 500 EV Hot Hatch Teased Prior To November 22 Debut

An Abarth version of the Fiat 500 EV has been expected for a while since the Abarth 595/695 range is long due for a replacement. It has now been confirmed that the first fully electric Abarth will debut on November 22, with a teaser revealing the unique alloy wheels featuring the scorpion badge.

According to the teaser, the new model will be called “Abarth New 500” instead of adopting the 595 or 695 nameplates of its ICE-powered predecessors. The color of choice for the presentation is a vivid electric lime shade, communicating the EV nature of the hot hatch. Naturally, this won’t be the only available color as we have already spotted a red-painted camouflaged prototype during testing.

The  Abarth-specific alloy wheels feature a five twin-spoke design, a duo-tone treatment, and a large Scorpion on the center caps matching the body color. The LED headlights are identical to the Fiat 500 but the bumper is redesigned adopting sportier looks. The bodykit is also expected to include side sill extensions, a new rear bumper with a diffuser, and a slightly larger rear spoiler. Inside, the Abarth New 500 will feature heavily bolstered bucket seats, unique infotainment graphics, and special trim options like its predecessors.

The company says that the new model will be “More Abarth Than Ever” hinting at a number of performance upgrades. It is safe to assume that the front-mounted electric motor will produce more than the 117 hp (87 kW / 118 PS) and 220 Nm (162 lb-ft) of torque of the standard Fiat 500, offering improved acceleration figures. The Scorpion brand has also revealed the speaker-generated electric sound of the model. More importantly, Abarth will equip the hot hatch with a more focused chassis setup featuring a stiffer suspension, stronger brakes, and tweaked steering.

We expect Abarth to continue with its teaser campaign until the official debut so we will keep you posted if we have any updates. Abarth will become an EV-only brand in 2024, following the demise of the aging 595/695 range which got one last update for 2023.
