There’s no denying the fact that the Mercedes-AMG One is an absolute monster on the racetrack, as it’s arguably the closest thing to a road-legal F1 car so far. The German automaker has released a new video showing them breaking more lap records at different historic tracks, leading up to their most impressive feat at the Nurburgring Nordschleife.
The first track they show is the Nurburgring’s Grand Prix circuit, which played host to F1‘s German Grand Prix in the wildly scheduled 2020 season. The One managed a record-breaking lap time of 1:56.096, which is a whopping 16 seconds quicker than the next closest production car, the 992 Porsche 911 GT3 with a time of 2:12.140.

The next track they go to is Austria’s Red Bull Ring, which also hosts a Formula 1 race. At this track, the One was able to achieve a record lap time of 1:26.846, beating the BAC Mono R, which was 6 whole seconds slower, at 1:32.960.
The final track Mercedes brought the car to before the Nordschleife was another circuit in Germany: the Hockenheimring, which played host of the German Grand Prix up until 2020. Mercedes was able to achieve a time of 1:38.563 with the One, which not only took the production car lap record at the track, besting the McLaren Senna and its 1:40.790 time, by over 2 seconds.
The driving force behind the One’s incredible track prowess lies in its F1-derived power unit and aerodynamics. The hypercar’s 1.6-liter turbocharged hybrid V6 makes 1,049 hp (1,063 PS / 782 kW), and all the clever aero amounts to an estimated 1,543 lb (700 kg) of downforce. And because most of that aero is active, it allows it to not only chew up corners with ease but also rocket down straightaways.
