Classic Porsches have been earning top dollar since long before the pandemic. A year ago, the German automaker helped to launch Marqued, an online community and auction site for classic cars. With 12 months in the books we’re getting a look at how it’s performed.

The site is the brainchild of “a passionate team of young enthusiasts who aspired to create their ideal site – one that welcomes a broad audience,” says Porsche. To that end, Marqued focuses on what it considers to be classic vehicles regardless of age. It vets each vehicle auctioned on the site and includes detailed descriptions, photos, and a vehicle history report too.

What makes Marqued a bit different from some (but not all) other platforms is that its auctions last for two weeks. That gives buyers a bit more time to get funds in place, get an inspection completed, and more. It also leans heavily into the community aspect of the classic car hobby.

“From the very beginning, our goal has been to build a welcoming and inclusive community across brands with a focus on the next generation of enthusiasts,” says Stephan Baral, Managing Director of Porsche Digital, Inc. “I think we are on track to achieve our vision, and we are excited to further serve the community.”

That track has seen the site convert 75 percent of the cars offered into sales. It’s also got a wide range of brands and price brackets too. Porsche points out that some cars sell for as little as $7,000 while others go for more than $200,000. Many generations are covered too with the oldest car sold being a 1950 Jaguar MK V 3.5-liter Saloon.

What’s Porsche getting out of all of this? Well, aside from whatever profit it could bring on through Marqued itself, more visibility in the enthusiast space. It already holds a high level of respect in the Porsche community but Marqued allows its influence to touch customers of other brands too.

“This is just the beginning of what Marqued wants to achieve,” says Baral. “We are currently exploring ways Marqued’s vision can be further accelerated. I am excited to see where 2023 takes us.”
