As the year comes to an end, Mercedes-Benz is gearing up for the debut of the facelifted compact models that are expected in 2023. Among them, the Mercedes-Benz GLB made a new spy appearance during winter testing, hiding its minor visual updates with patches of camouflage.

Our spy photographers caught a new prototype of the updated GLB out in the cold and managed to snag some close-up shots. The SUV is painted in the Rose Gold Metallic shade which is an option in the current GLB. For the development testing, it is combined with small-diameter ten-spoke alloy wheels finished in black and shod in winter tires. This appears to be an entry-level trim of the GLB and not the sportier AMG Line for the full-fledged AMG.

A closer look at the front bumper shows the new graphics on the boxy LED headlights, but the camouflage does a great job of hiding details on the redesigned bumper. We expect more modern intakes and a slightly revised grille. The profile will be nearly identical, while the tail will receive new graphics for the elongated LED taillights. The rear bumper with the dual exhaust pipes also appears to be carried over which is why Mercedes didn’t bother on adding camouflage.

Interior updates will include a redesigned center console without the old touchpad, a new steering wheel, and most likely fresh upholstery options. The digital dashboard with dual screens located in the same panel is also expected to gain updated software, benefiting from the latest advancements in the MBUX infotainment. Note that the GLB is offered with a three-row seven-seater layout, as a longer, more practical and boxier-looking alternative to the smaller GLA.

Engine options will be carried over from the current GLB with minor updates. Still, we expect a more heavily electrified mix, especially in Europe where the SUV will be offered with various mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid options in order to comply with the strict emission regulations. Thankfully, Mercedes-AMG will still offer the performance-focused GLB 35 as proven by our spy shots. The closely-related fully electric EQB will also live on, receiving similar updates in the near future.

The updated Mercedes-Benz GLB is expected to debut after the facelifts of the closely-related A-Class, CLA, and GLA, as it was the last of the bunch to arrive back in 2019. Our sources suggest a debut in the second half of 2023, although nothing is official yet which means that Mercedes could surprise us with an earlier introduction.
