TL;DR

  • A OnePlus executive has apparently said there won’t be a OnePlus 11 Pro this year.
  • This would be the first year without a Pro model since 2018.

OnePlus just launched the OnePlus 11 in China this week, with a global release scheduled for February 7. The phone lacks a Pro moniker, but does that mean we should expect a Pro device later in 2023?

Well, OnePlus China president Li Jie responded to a user’s query on Weibo, asserting that there’s actually no OnePlus 11 Pro (h/t: GSMArena). Check out the machine-translated screenshot below.

It’s unclear whether the executive means there’s no OnePlus 11 Pro at all or no Pro model for China in particular. Nevertheless, this is just a machine translation, so it’s possible the screenshot isn’t entirely accurate to begin with. Still, this would be the first time OnePlus skips a Pro model since 2018’s OnePlus 6T.

The OnePlus 11 certainly seems like a Pro device in many ways, owing to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, QHD+ 120Hz OLED screen, flexible Hasselblad camera system, and 100W wired charging. But it also lacks a few features we’ve previously seen on Pro models, such as wireless charging and faster USB speeds. In saying so, the OnePlus 11 starts at 3,999 yuan (~$580) in China compared to the OnePlus 10 Pro’s 4,699 yuan (~$685) launch price.

Either way, we’re curious to see global pricing for the OnePlus 11, as some people might be willing to overlook the lack of a OnePlus 11 Pro if the standard model is a good deal. This would still be a flip-flop of sorts for the company though, coming a year after the firm launched the OnePlus 10 Pro but no vanilla OnePlus 10.

What do you think of OnePlus potentially skipping a Pro phone?
