Over the last few days, there’s a chance that you’ve seen something online about the Mada 9, which, if you believe all of the hype, is Afghanistan’s first supercar. In fact, it’s supposedly so good that it’ll go toe to toe with a Bugatti. Let’s take a moment and sort the fact from the fiction.

First and foremost, this isn’t just another render of a hopeful company that would like to someday build a car. The Mada 9 is a physical vehicle that can move under its own power. That alone separates it from things like the Ares S1 and the SP Automotive Chaos.

Beyond the short and simple “is real and moves under its own power” checkmark though, the Mada 9 doesn’t seem like it’s any closer to production. A few short videos of the car show people surrounding it and talking about it but only one actually shows it driving. Even then, it’s moving at a very low speed with a low RPM engine sound in the background.

Unlike some of the vaporware mentioned above, the Mada 9 doesn’t have a single shred of technical specifications that we could find anywhere. According to numerous sources, the Mada 9 is the creation of the brand ENTOP. Its CEO is Muhammad Raza Ahmadi, who evidently claims that the car has been in development for some five years and that it’ll be finished in just two weeks’ time.

Of course, he said that back in November and we have yet to get any info on technical details, pricing, drivetrain components, or performance data. Rumors indicate that the Mada 9 features “lightweight composite materials, a tubular frame chassis, and pushrod suspension components.” A video posted to the brand’s YouTube page on December 31st, 2022 shows the chassis of the car and a lethargic four-cylinder Toyota engine coming to life.

It should be noted that lots of hopeful supercar manufacturers slap their names on renders and prototypes in hopes that somebody will pay them enough to build just one or two functioning examples. From everything we’re seeing here, it seems that while the Mada 9 isn’t vaporware in the conventional sense, it might not make it to full-scale production, especially if you take into consideration the country’s current state of affairs. We’d love to be proven wrong though.
