Following the debut of the sixth-generation Subaru Impreza at the LA Auto Show last November, the automaker is ready to bring the compact hatchback to its home market in Japan. However, instead of showing a standard JDM-spec model at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2023, Subaru unveiled an Impreza concept fitted with a range of STI accessories.

Of course, this is not a full-blown STI, but a regular Impreza that looks a bit angrier. The hatchback is painted in a new “Sunbrace Pearl” orange, combined with black alloy wheels and glossy black accents on the STI body kit.

Subaru Impreza Dressed With STI Parts Shows Its Sporty Side In Tokyo

The STI parts include a pronounced splitter at the front, aerodynamic side skirts, a rear bumper extension putting more emphasis on the faux diffuser, a larger roof spoiler, and a pair of centrally-mounted exhaust pipes.

There are no changes under the bonnet, where we find the 2.0-liter e-Boxer hybrid powertrain. Just like in the Crosstrek, it combines a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter petrol engine producing 143 hp (107 kW / 145 PS) and 188 Nm (139 lb-ft) of torque, with an electric motor making another 13 hp (10 kW / 14 PS) and 65 Nm (48 lb-ft) of torque. Power is transmitted to all four wheels (AWD) through a Lineatronic CVT gearbox. Subaru didn’t mention anything about chassis upgrades, although we wouldn’t be surprised if the STI division is working on new suspension components for improved handling.

The Subaru Impreza with STI Parts is exhibited as a concept, but chances are it will be followed by an identical production version after the market launch of the JDM-spec Impreza. Besides the hatchback, Subaru brought a full range of models at the Tokyo Auto Salon, including a limited production Levorg STI Sport, two adventurous Boost Gear concepts based on the Crosstrek and the Rex, and a few racecars.
