Mercedes is known for its collaborative projects with artists and fashion houses, so it is no surprise that the automaker teamed up with clothing and accessory company Moncler. As a result, a rather unusual concept based on the G-Class will be fully unveiled on February 20, at the London Fashion Week.

Mercedes published a series of teasers on its German press site for what it calls “a unique piece of art”. While they are really dark, two of them give away the connection with the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. A closer look reveals the grille and round headlights of the G-Wagen, surrounded by massive balloony pieces similar to the iconic puffers by Moncler.

Another photo shows a portion of the profile, with an oversized wheel structure and four rows of puffers mounted on the rear, forming something like a cover you normally see on pickup trucks. The impressive size of the exhibit is evident in the photo with a human model as a reference, which also shows the reflective nature of the textile.

The automaker was coy on details but said that the collaboration “opens up an imaginary universe that embraces the shared values among the brands”. This confirms that the G-Class won’t be a functional SUV, but rather an art piece combining design cues from both Mercedes and Moncler.

The man behind the project is Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer of the entire Mercedes‑Benz Group, who put his signature on the concept. The official debut will take place at the “Moncler Art of Genius” live show during London Fashion Week and the event will also be streamed online, so expect a lot of coverage from both fashion-related and automotive media.
