The original Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray is a true automotive icon and in late March, a particularly special example will be auctioned off by Mecum.

What you’re looking at is one of just 66 RPO N03 ‘Big Tank’ models built with the available 36-gallon fuel tank. It is also powered by the flagship 427 cubic-inch V8 engine that pumped out 425 hp when the car was new and is one of just 15 built with the close-ratio Muncie M22 ‘Rock Crusher’ 4-speed manual transmission.

Mecum Auctions has revealed that the car was sold new through Capital Chevrolet in Nashville, Tennessee before being exported to Germany where it was raced by Anatoly Arutunoff.

While the listing is short on other ownership details about the car, it does confirm that it has benefitted from a body-off restoration that includes new genuine door panels, seats, headrests, seat belts, and other parts.

There are plenty of other things that the car has going for it, including the desirable J56 heavy-duty brakes, F41 heavy-duty suspension, a tinted windshield, and a heater delete. It also has a tachometer with an 8,500 rpm redline and a 200 mph (320 km/h) speedometer.

The 1966 ‘Vette is being sold with copies of an NCRS Certificate, original bill of sale, Statement of Origin and a Homologation Recognition Form. No details have been provided about how many miles the car has traveled since new.

Nevertheless, images of the car show that both the interior and exterior appear to have been very well-maintained throughout the decades. The white paint scheme of the sports car is particularly striking and is made all the more intriguing thanks to the various matte black accents.
