A number of expensive GM models were stolen from the Rick Hendrick City Chevrolet dealership in east Charlotte, North Carolina on February 5.

The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department says that a gang of thieves smashed their way into the dealership at around midnight. The thieves then stole the key fobs to several vehicles and made off with a 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, a 2021 Dodge Challenger, a black 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe, and a white 2020 Jeep Compass Trailhawk.

Speaking with WBTV, Detective Rick Smith of the CMPD Crime Stoppers said the thieves may try to sell the cars or some of their parts.

“Once they located those key fobs, they actually came outside the business and took the vehicles,” he said. “We can’t definitively say how organized they are, but we would like to get these individuals identified and get them into custody. They’re going to drive them around as long as they can. They may even try to sell some of the cars or some of the parts.”

Security cameras littered throughout the dealership captured images of the thieves, revealing that they hadn’t even covered their faces. While police don’t believe the theft was an inside job, they say that the group likely had prior knowledge of the dealership given how quickly they were able to locate the keys.

The Hendrick Automotive Group is offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information about the theft.

“We know that someone has insight in reference to this incident and we’re just asking for your tips,” Smith added. “The cars we can get back, but you have an opportunity to earn up to $10,000.”
