The tech-laden interior of the Chinese market Electra E5 could hint at what’s coming to the U.S. in 2024

Buick today unveiled the interior of the Electra E5 all-electric crossover. The Chinese model is the brand’s first to be based on the Ultium platform, and its interior promises oodles of tech and a dignified amount of classy styling, some of which may eventually make it to the U.S. market.
The most attention-grabbing part of the interior is undoubtedly the 30-inch large OLED display, which acts as both the infotainment screen and the instrument cluster. Capable of reflecting up to a billion colors smoothly, the screen is sure to impress.
That’s not all of the display Buick Electra E5 drivers will have access to, though. While on the road, they will also be given important driving information on a 12.6-inch heads-up display, to help them keep their eyes on the road at all times.
The displays will be running on the latest generation of the Buick eConnect system, which offers owners multimedia content with built-in apps. Drivers will also be able to control many of the Electra E5’s features with voice commands.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and phone charging will also come standard on the vehicle, and it will be equipped with an iKey that allows keyless access. In addition, owners will be able to get remote vehicle diagnostics and more from wherever they want, thanks to a smartphone app.

All of the tech is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8155 chip, and the Electra E5 will have 5G compatibility for faster data transfer and over-the-air updates on multiple vehicle modules at the same time.
As to the interior design, Buick says that the Electra E5 is “characterized by a layered floating design and sophisticated simplicity.” The company says it was going for a light and futuristic vibe to elevate the technology inside.
Inspired by luxury furniture design, the S-shaped seatbacks help convey a sense of airiness, while the 121-color ambient lighting system can change with the music you’re listening to, in order to provide a little more excitement.
Getting into the nitty-gritty, the electric platform allows the Electra E5 to give its occupants plenty of room. Rear seat passengers get 1,030 mm (40.5 inches) of legroom, and behind them, there are up to 1,658 liters (58.5 cubic feet) of cargo space.
Although the Electra E5 is intended for the Chinese market, American consumers can look forward to getting an Electra of their own in the near future. While it remains to be seen how much of this tech and design will make it to the U.S., the crossover does at least provide us with a hint as to what Buick is thinking of for the American model that is expected to be unveiled in 2024.
