Maserati was among the brands that had a presence at the record The ICE, St. Moritz event in Switzerland where it brought along a handful of very fine vehicles.
The extraordinary race car is driven by a 4.2-liter V8 engine equipped with four twin-choke Weber carburetters delivering 410 hp and a two-speed transmission. It finished 7th at the 500 Miles of Monza in 1958 when it was driven by the late Stirling Moss. Maserati says it could exceed 350 km/h (217 mph) but its racing life was cut short when its steering broke at 250 km/h (155 mph) while Moss was behind the wheel, resulting in a huge crash that forced Maserati to completely rebuild the car.
A number of other Maserati models were showcased to attendees over the weekend. These include a 3500 GT and a Mistral, a pair of stunning cars that also turned heads. Some more modern Maserati models were also put on display, including the one-off Grecale ‘Mission from Mars,’ the new MC20 Cielo, and the new-age GranTurismo that was showcased in both Trofeo and all-electric Folgore guises.
Of these, it was probably the MC20 Cielo that was the highlight. Unveiled in May last year, it is the convertible version of the MC20 supercar that sports a retractable hardtop that can be opened or closed in just 12 seconds. Driving the car is the same engine as the Coupe, meaning a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 that is good for 621 hp and 538 lb-ft (730 Nm) of torque. This engine works alongside an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission driving the rear wheels.
