Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you’ll know that GhatGPT is an artificial intelligence chatbot developed by OpenAI and launched in November 2022. It quickly became the fastest-growing consumer application ever, reaching over 100 million users in just two months.
While recently speaking with Reuters, GM vice president Scott Miller said that ChatGPT could be used to access information on how to use important vehicle features ordinarily found in an owner’s manual. It could also be used to program functions such as a garage door code or could be used to integrate schedules from a calendar. It may operate in GM vehicles using Microsoft’s Azure cloud service.
“ChatGPT is going to be in everything,” Miller said.
“This shift is not just about one single capability like the evolution of voice commands, but instead means that customers can expect their future vehicles to be far more capable and fresh overall when it comes to emerging technologies,” a GM spokesperson added.

Semafor reports that GM is developing a new personal assistant that will use the same artificial intelligence models as ChatGPT. If a driver was to get a flat tire, they could ask the car for instructions on how to open it. The assistant could then play an instructional video on how to change a tire. It is reported that GM’s AI assistant will provide different answers to ChatGPT because it will have a more car-specific layer on top of the OpenAI language model that underpins it.
