Only 424 examples of the rare 22B Coupe were ever built

Subaru has built dozens of different Impreza WRX STi variants over the years but none are more desirable nor expensive than the 22B.
The Japanese brand developed the 22B as a way to celebrate its third consecutive FIA World Rally Championship title and its 40th anniversary. Just 424 examples were ever manufactured, each painted in World Rally Blue and rocking a host of bespoke components that distinguish it from all other derivatives of the STi. Most notably, the 22B was built exclusively as a two-door.
This particular unit has been listed up for sale through Bring a Trailer and is number 135 of the 400 units that were originally produced for the Japanese market. It was imported into the United States in June 2021 under a ‘show or display’ exemption and is being sold at no reserve with all of its important documents, paperwork, a CarVX report, and a clean Washington State title. At the time of writing, bidding had exceeded $125,000.

Key aspects of the Impreza WRX STi 22B that make it stand out include the gold-finished 17-inch BBS wheels, factory Bilstein shocks, a carbon fiber strut tower bar, and beefed-up brake calipers. The seller notes that the front suspension and power steering pump and rack were removed, disassembled, and inspected in 2023. In addition, the car underwent a complete engine-out service earlier this year to ensure it is in tip-top condition.
Speaking of the engine, it takes the form of a turbocharged and intercooled 2.2-liter flat-four that was good for 280 hp at 6,000 rpm and 268 lb-ft (363 Nm) of torque at 3,200 rpm when it was new. The engine-out service saw the cylinder heads resurfaced as well as the head gaskets, timing belt, water pump, thermostat, spark plugs, and vacuum lines replaced.

While the Subaru has been driven 115,000 miles (~186,000 km), it seems to have been well-maintained and would look excellent in any collection.
