Skoda is gearing up for the debut of the new Kodiaq and Superb models this autumn, which have just completed their cold-weather testing regime in the Arctic Circle. The automaker published video footage with a pair of camouflaged prototypes driving in beautiful Scandinavian landscapes and under the Northern lights.

Predictably, the prototypes of the Kodiaq and the Superb Combi were completely covered in camouflage wrap, similar to the ones caught by our spy photographers during the past year. Still, the official video reveals more details of the new styling compared to the recent teaser sketches.

The 2024 Skoda Superb appears to adopt a sleeker silhouette compared to its predecessor. Skoda has confirmed that the new Superb will be available in sedan and estate forms, unlike the closely-related estate-only next-gen VW Passat.

On the other hand, the 2024 Skoda Kodiaq seems to be less angular than the model it replaces while retaining some signature styling cues and familiar proportions.

Winter Testing As Usual

Skoda engineers tested the chassis, body, engine, heating, and electrical system of the cars in temperatures as low as -38° Celcius (-36.4° Fahrenheit). They ensured that the doors, bonnet, tailgate, fuel filler cap, and charging socket could open and close under those conditions while making sure there is no problem with all that snow entering the engine compartment and bumper intakes. Furthermore, the suspension setup, all-wheel-drive system, and electronic aids were tested on slippery icy, and snowy roads, while the battery packs of the PHEV variants proved their resilience to the cold.

Following the completion of the winter tests, the Kodaiq and Superb enter the final phase of their development. Both models are expected to ride on an improved version of the MQB architecture as with the majority of the remaining ICE-powered models of the VW Group. Skoda has confirmed they will offer petrol, diesel, mild-hybrid, and plug-in hybrid powertrain options. The Kodiaq will be produced in Kvasiny, Czech Republic, while the Superb will be manufactured in Bratislava, Slovakia.
