BMW Films is back with an all-new seven minute movie called The Calm.

Set to debut on May 17, the film doesn’t appear to be part of The Hire series as it eschews Clive Owen. Instead, Pom Klementieff and Uma Thurman take the lead as a pair of “secret agents who have been summoned separately to a meet point in Cannes.”

Since it wouldn’t be much of a film if they simply arrived on time without a hassle, the duo have to “fight off some mysterious adversaries” including one that tries to take out Klementieff’s character in the back of a BMW i7 M70 xDrive. The two women eventually connect and “piece together the story behind their secret mission.”

The film was directed by Sam Hargrave, who directed Extraction and has been a stunt coordinator on numerous big-budget films including several in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Joseph Kosinski served as executive producer, while Hans Zimmer provided the soundtrack.

Besides landing on YouTube, The Calm will be shown at the Cannes Film Festival. However, in a twist, attendees will watch it in the back of an i7 that has been outfitted with a 31.3-inch BMW Theatre Screen.

BMW’s One-Off Homage Concept Appears To Be Based On The Z4

In other news, BMW’s Senior Vice President of Design teased a mysterious model for the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este next month. Adrian van Hooydonk didn’t say much about the two-seater, but it appears to be based on the Z4.

That isn’t much to go on, but the company has previously described the model as an “elegantly, sporty one-off” that is a homage. However, there’s no word on which classic model it will reference.

The automaker will also use the event to introduce a “very special BMW M car,” although it’s not clear what it is.
