It’s been more than two decades since Mitsubishi sold a proper two-door sports car with power to all four wheels in America. This 1997 3000GT VR-4 looks like a stunning example of that last model though. It’s on offer out of Cleveland for a cool $79,900 and has fewer than 8,000 miles (12,875 km) on the odometer.

The 3000GT was available for less than a full decade here in America but this, the VR-4 trim was the hottest of them all throughout its lifespan. That’s because it always included a twin-turbocharged V6, a six-speed manual transmission, and a four-wheel drive system. This one has all of that in near-perfect condition.

Finished in Panama Green Pearl over Tan leather upholstery, this car has exactly 7,341 miles on it and had an oil change just 14 miles ago. The exterior finish looks great and that includes the chrome 18-inch wheels, the lights, and the rear spoiler. Pop the hood and you’ll see that the engine looks clean enough to eat off of.

This 1997 3000GT VR-4 Might Be The Closest Thing To A New Mitsubishi Sports Car In America

The interior looks pretty good too though there’s noticeable peeling of the shift boot. The seats themselves look almost comically appropriate for the period. Today, you’d never find such big cushion-heavy seats in a performance car. Even grand touring cars, like the 3000GT was in the 1990s, don’t have them.

The ad from Marshall Goldman says that this is one of only 510 VR-4s built for the 1997 model year and one of just 71 in this paint color. It’s had a timing belt service including a new water pump recently along with a full flush and fill of other vital fluids too. While it might be unlikely that the next owner would be willing to stack up a bunch of miles on this car it’s nice to know that it seems capable should they want to.

The car even comes with all of the original documentation including the window sticker with a price tag of $45,938. Adjusted for inflation that’s about $86,936 so in that light, this is almost an appropriately priced used car deal. Of course, if it’s this same one from a few years back we wish we would’ve bought it then.
