EV conversions of classic cars are becoming more and more popular as we move into the zero-emission era with potential limitations for ICE-powered models in the future. However, there are also some critics that want to preserve the authenticity of the original models. Thankfully, Electrogenic answers both needs as their new “drop-in” EV conversion kit for the classic Jaguar E-Type is fully reversible and fits right into the existing car’s packaging while being compact and lightweight.

The first EV-converted example of the iconic British model is a 1962 Jaguar E-Type Roadster Series 1. The gorgeous exterior and interior remain unchanged, with the exception of the instrument cluster which has been repurposed to display EV-specific info. Even the tailpipes retain their position below the sexy tail so it is hard to tell that this E-Type runs on electricity if not given away by the silent operation. The important changes happen under the skin, improving the performance and environmental credentials of the vehicle.

The electric powertrain is neatly tucked in the engine bay, with other components placed under the cargo area at the back, in the fuel tank, and in all of the empty spaces throughout the cabin. The electric motor produces 160 hp (120 kW / 163 PS) and a healthy 620 Nm (460 lb-ft) of torque, sending power to the rear wheels through a single-speed, fixed ratio transmission that allows for a 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) sprint in under 6 seconds. The driver has access to Eco, Sport, and Traffic modes, alongside regenerative braking.

There are various battery options available for the vehicle, providing capacities of 43 kW, 48 kW, or 63 kW. These options offer driving ranges of 150 miles (241 km), 160 miles (258 km), and 200 miles (322 km) respectively. Additionally, all battery options are compatible with CCS rapid charging, allowing for a full charge in as little as 50 minutes. Electrogenic claims that the weight distribution has been carefully optimized to ensure natural handling. Interestingly, despite the inclusion of battery cells, the E43 and E48 variants are lighter than the standard ICE-powered E-Type, while the E63 variant weighs about the same.

Electrogenic’s EV conversion kit is specifically designed to be compatible with all Jaguar E-Type models, including Series 1, 2, and 3 in both Coupe and Roadster variants. The conversion package is engineered to ensure ease of installation by a qualified technician and can be entirely reversed if desired. This means that owners have the flexibility to restore their E-Type to its original condition at any point in the future without compromising its resale value.
