General Motors has issued a recall for a single 2022 GMC Hummer EV and four examples of the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq, in order to replace their high-voltage batteries.

The reason for the recall is that certain connections within the battery packs of the affected vehicles may be out of position or may not have been correctly welded during the manufacturing process. This issue could lead to a reduction or a complete loss of power, increasing the risk of an accident under specific circumstances.

One GMC Hummer And Four Cadillac Lyriq EVs Recalled To Get Their Batteries Replaced

GM says that the vehicles may inform their drivers about the improperly welded battery connections by lighting up the battery warning light. They may also get warning messages on the screen such as “Service High Voltage System”, “Charging Disabled” or “Vehicle Will Not Restart”.

In any case, the company will notify the five owners of the affected models so they can fix the issue once in for all. The solution to the problem is the replacement of the battery pack which will happen free of charge from trained personnel at GMC or Cadillac dealers.

Thankfully for General Motors, a very small number of units are involved, limiting the cost and consequences of the recall. Both the GMC Hummer EV and the Cadillac Lyriq are based on the GM Ultium platform and are hurt by battery supply issues leading to long waiting lists.
