This is the new Haval Xianglong SUV developed by Great Wall Motors for the Chinese market and with it, the carmaker likely hopes to attract shoppers away from some more established off-roaders built by Western brands.
Information published online by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology reveals that the Xianglong rocks a plug-in hybrid powertrain available in two variations. The entry-level model makes use of a 1.5-liter petrol engine working alongside a 70 kW (94 hp) electric motor up front and a 150 kW (201 hp) rear electric motor. Those seeking some extra performance will be able to opt for a 1.5-liter turbocharged hybrid engine, an 80 kW (108 hp) front electric motor, and a 150 kW (201 hp) rear electric motor.
Details regarding the size of the battery pack are not yet known but what we do know is that it is a lithium iron phosphate pack that gives the off-roader a respectable 105 km (65 miles) of all-electric driving range.

Visually, the front end of the Haval Xianglong is quite similar to other Haval models and rocks a large grille with horizontal slates as well as circular headlights with square black surrounds. Haval has also equipped it with a skid plate and a black lower bumper. The black accents continue along the sides with the arches and rocker panels. Visible at the rear is a full-size spare wheel and tire, a black and silver bumper, and four square taillights heavily inspired by those of the Land Rover Defender.
Local media notes that the SUV is 4,800 mm (188.9 inches) long, 1,916 mm (75.4 inches) wide, and 1,822 mm (71.7 inches) tall while rocking a 2,738 mm (107.7 inch) wheelbase. Photos of the interior are not yet available but we expect it to be equipped with a digital instrument cluster and a large infotainment screen. Given that it has been developed as a capable off-roader, it’s safe to assume that it will also offer plenty of different driving modes to help it handle even the most difficult of terrain.
