Mercedes-Benz Japan has revealed that 17 examples of the striking Mercedes-AMG SL 63 4Matic+ Motorsport Collectors Edition will be sold locally, making it the rarest and perhaps the most desirable variant of the sporty droptop.
The German brand first took off the covers to the SL 63 4Matic+ Motorsport Collectors Edition in January. At the time, it confirmed that 100 examples would be produced worldwide but did not specify which markets would receive an allocation. We now know that each of the 17 examples bound for Japan will cost 40 million yen ($277,000), an eye-watering sum for the car.
Immediately making the Motorsport Collectors Edition stand out from all other iterations of the SL 63 4Matic+ is the two-tone silver and black paint scheme inspired by the company’s Formula 1 car. As such, the front half of the car is finished in silver before it gradually changes to black across the rear quarter panels. The paint then incorporates dozens of little three pointed stars, making it virtually identical to the paint of the Mercedes-AMG GT Black P One Edition, offered exclusively to those who have ordered a Mercedes-AMG One.

Some other unique changes have been made to the SL 63. For example, it features the Petronas colors on the front bumper, side skirts, the outer edges of the wheel, and on the rear bumper. Mercedes has also equipped it with distinctive 10-spoke, 21-inch wheels with a black finish. Moreover, it is rocking the AMG Aerodynamics Package and the AMG Night Package I and II, adding elements including high-gloss black and black chrome coatings on the splitter, sills, mirror caps, and front grille.
The cabin has been well equipped with black Nappa leather sports seats, a Burmester sound system, the AMG Track Pace telematics package, and an AMG car cover for indoor use.

Mercedes-Benz Japan is expected to start customer deliveries this month.
