The Ford Maverick has been a huge success and a conquest king, but big changes are in store for 2024.

Following an initial report, The Drive received confirmation from the automaker that the 2024 Maverick will come standard with the 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder. While that sounds like good news, as the engine produces 250 hp (186 kW / 253 PS) and 277 lb-ft (375 Nm) of torque, it comes at a cost.

In particular, the price of the truck will reportedly climb to $24,995 including destination. Depending on the specifics, it wouldn’t be too much of an increase as the 2023 Maverick XL EcoBoost starts at $22,595 before factoring in the $1,595 destination fee.

Ford Maverick’s Hybrid Powertrain Set To Become $1,500 Option

However, that’s only half of the story as the hybrid powertrain, which currently comes standard, is slated to become a $1,500 option. That would raise the price of the hybrid to $26,495 which is pretty significant when you consider the truck debuted in the summer of 2021 with a base price of $19,995.

While the hybrid engine won’t be cheap, it’s a big part of what makes the Maverick so remarkable. As we noted during our original review, “Amazing. That’s about the only way you can describe the 2022 Ford Maverick as the pickup starts at $19,995 and comes with a hybrid powertrain that allowed us to average 49 mpg in real-world testing.”

With numbers like that, it’s not surprising that a vast majority of consumers reportedly opted for hybrid power. This has reportedly resulted in shortages and the eventual decision to make the hybrid powertrain an optional extra.

Ford Authority reports order banks will open for the 2024 Maverick in less than two weeks, so we’ll likely learn more shortly.
