We’ve heard of expensive options before, but never anything quite like this. Reports from the ribbon cutting ceremony at Koenigsegg’s new production facility suggest that the company will offer Gemera buyers a V8 hybrid powertrain that makes 2,300 hp (1,715 kW/2,332 PS) and costs an additional $400,000.

When it was first unveiled, Koenigsegg promised that the two-door, four seat Gemera would make a still rather excessive 1,700 hp (1,268 kW/1,723 PS) from a three-cylinder engine that works in combination with a hybrid system.

Now, the production version of the Gemera is set to be offered with a second powertrain, reports the Egg Registry. It throws out the three-cylinder engine in favor of a V8 borrowed from the Jesko.

In that car, the 5.0-liter twin-turbocharged engine is already capable of making 1,578 hp (1,177 kW / 1,600 PS) and 1,106 lb-ft (1,500 Nm) of torque when running on E85 fuel. The company further claims that it is the fastest revving production engine on earth, making it a welcome addition to almost any car.

Just how it is meant to fit into the same space used by a relatively tiny three-cylinder is not yet clear, but it will reportedly be paired to the automaker’s nine-speed Light Speed Transmission, and thanks to the hybrid system will deliver 2,300 hp and 2,028 lb-ft (2,750 Nm) of torque.

In addition, the production version of the Gemera will offer physical side mirrors (instead of the cameras seen on earlier prototypes) to satisfy U.S. regulations. A “Ghost Package” will add a rear wing, an extended front splitter, an S-duct, and other aerodynamic upgrades for better performance. However, the package does compromise practicality by eliminating the front trunk.

Unfortunately, the outlet reports that production of the Gemera is still some time away. The first customers are expected to start receiving their cars in 2025.
