Alfa Romeo has announced that it is planning to unveil a new, limited edition supercar in August, and now, rumors suggest that a name has been signed off on. The car will reportedly be called the 33.
Earlier this month, Alfa Romeo revealed that it would be unveiling the supercar on August 30, on the same weekend as the Italian Grand Prix at Monza. The automaker’s CEO, Jean-Philippe Imparato, suggested at the time that the car will draw inspiration from its past, including the legendary 33 Stradale from 1967.
Indeed, that is being listed as one of the products referenced by the putative new name of the car, 33. Autocar, citing unnamed sources within Alfa Romeo, reports that the name will also be inspired by the number of examples produced, which will be limited to just 33.

Finally, the name will also refer to the car’s top speed, which will be 333 km/h (206 mph). Given the limited nature of its production and the impressive performance, prices will also be quite high, and are set to start at more than €1 million ($1.11 million USD at current exchange rates).
Previous reports suggested that the car might be called the 6C, also as a reference to Alfa Romeo’s past, and to help it fit in with vehicles like the 8C and the 4C. The brand has still not officially identified what will power the new 33, but it could draw on the very impressive 2.9-liter V6 used in the Giulia Quadrifoglio. In GTAm form, it makes 532 hp (397 kW/540 PS) and 442 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torque.
A “dream come true” for Alfa Romeo’s CEO, he claimed that the car is “inspired by a daring team that wanted to achieve something unique.” Given its small production run, it is no surprise that Imparato thinks it will be sold out before it has even been revealed late this summer.
