The redesigned crossover starts at $20,400 and helps to fill the void left by sedans killed during the carpocalypse. That’s a winning combination and consumers have taken notice as Trax sales have skyrocketed 115%. The good news doesn’t end there as half of U.S. customers are new to the GM family. Likewise, more than 50% of buyers who trade-in a vehicle are new to the bowtie brand.
The surge in sales has helped to push Chevrolet’s market share in the small SUV segment to 25%, which are numbers not seen since 2007. On top of that, customers aren’t just buying the base model as the Trax had an average transaction price of $24,487 in the second quarter.
Chevrolet expects the momentum to continue in the second half of this year as shipments to dealers will increase. That’s good news for anyone who’s mourned the loss of affordable sedans such as the Chevrolet Cruze and Ford Focus.
