Consumer Reports just dropped a list of the best cars for taller folks in each segment except the one most of us care about

People, just like cars, come in all shapes and sizes and one of those sizes is Venti. I mean tall. No, not like at Starbucks. I mean vertically tall and finding a vehicle for such a person can be difficult. According to a new report, finding one that’s not a ho-hum boring people mover might be even harder.
As a taller guy, I’ve got a slew of one-liners in the bag ready for when someone makes a random comment about my height. One, in response to a comment about how cool it must be to be tall, is “It’s not as easy when you want to buy a sports car.” Turns out that not only am I anecdotally correct about that but that new data says that I’m also factually correct.
In fact, Consumer Reports didn’t even include sports cars in their list of the best cars for tall people in each segment. Instead, it mostly focused on the low-hanging fruit of the SUV segments. Here’s a quick breakdown of the winners in each category. Notably, their tallest tester is evidently six-foot-two so keep that in mind as you read. For reference, here’s me, six-foot-six in a TVR S2.

To find these results, CR focused on how their tallest drivers scored things like access, driving position, front-seat comfort, and visibility. They scored vehicles in most segments but notably omitted large SUVs because none are “CR Recommended” and sports cars because… we’re not sure. It recommends lots of cars like the Chevrolet Corvette, Toyota Supra, and Mazda MX-5, but never once mentions sports cars in its lengthy list of cars for tall people.
The best driver’s car of the bunch that it does recommend is the Porsche Cayenne. The Audi A8 and A6 also make the grade so presumably the RS6 and S8 would too. After that, though, the list gets pretty boring pretty fast. It includes the Audi Q3, the VW Atlas Cross Sport, and the Honda Pilot.
The Honda Odyssey also makes an appearance as the winner of the minivan category. Subaru gets two spots with both the Legacy and the Forester. BMW also joins the list with the 2-Series Gran Coupe and Kia kicks the whole thing off with the Soul. That’s a relatively soulless list for someone who wants a car with the driving experience at the very forefront.
