BYD has already sold 1.5 million new energy vehicles (NEV) globally in the first half of this year

BYD’s rapid growth is continuing and on August 9 it hit a major milestone, producing its 5 millionth new energy vehicle (NEV) as a Denza N7 rolled out of its factory.
New energy vehicles in China encompass plug-in hybrids and battery-electric vehicles and it took BYD some 13 years before it had produced its first million NEVs. Since then, its sales and production figures have skyrocketed with just a further 18 months needed to reach three million and 9 months to now hit the 5 million mark.
Last year proved to be a pivotal one in the history of BYD as its sales soared, surpassing 1.86 million units. It has gone from strength to strength in 2023 as well, selling 1.5 million NEVs globally in the first six months of this year, including 92,469 units in overseas markets.

“Today marks a historic moment for BYD as we witness our 5 millionth new energy vehicle rolls off the production line,” BYD chairman and president Wang Chuanfu said. “On this special occasion, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to our customers across the globe for their trust in our products, our partners in the industry for this journey shared together, and every one of our employees whose hard work and dedication have made this landmark possible.”

The Chinese car manufacturer currently sells its passenger-focused NEVs in 54 countries and also has electrified buses and taxis in operation in over 400 cities in more than 70 countries.
BYD believes that it and fellow Chinese car manufacturers are on the verge of disrupting the entire automotive industry. Earlier this week, Wang Chuanfu called on his Chinese counterparts to join forces to “demolish the old legends” of the car industry to make China a true global juggernaut of the market.
