A heavily modified 1971 Datsun 240Z that has been turned into a Roadster is heading to auction this week and will likely sell for between $50,000 and $70,000.

This unique 240Z was brought to life by two Californian shops. The first, Pierre’s Z Service Center in Southern California, used its expertise to transform it into a Roadster. During the same time period, Scarab Industries in Northern California had built its own custom 240Z with a powerful 350 hp V8, so the original owner of this car decided to start with a 240Z Roadster from Pierre’s Z Service Center and then modified it in the theme of a V8 240Z from Scarab.

The result is a blacked-out Datsun powered by a potent 454 cubic-inch (7.4-liter) LSX V8 crate engine that delivers an impressive 665 hp. The car also features tubular headers, a FAST manifold, and rocks a Tremec six-speed manual transmission that drives the rear wheels. While the Mecum Auctions listing for the car doesn’t mention how much it weighs nor how quick it is, we’re sure it is an absolute weapon in a straight line.

The conversion from a Coupe to a Roadster isn’t the only change made to the exterior. For example, the windshield has been lowered and the car features new front and rear flairs as well as a set of 17-inch staggered HRE wheels with a staggered finish. Any car with big power also needs big brakes so a set of Wilwood discs and calipers have been fitted. In addition, the chassis has additional bracing, there is a re-engineered rear diffuser, and there are custom front and rear suspension components.

Completing the changes made to the 240Z is tan-colored leather on the seats, door panels, transmission tunnel, modern gauges, and new carpeting.
