Polestar has just started customer deliveries of the upgraded Polestar 2 and in the process, has celebrated building 150,000 cars.

Production of the Polestar 2 started in 2020 and it has quickly established itself as one of the finer premium EVs currently on sale. It has proven to be particularly popular in the UK where more than 20,000 examples have been sold over the past three years. In addition, Polestar has been the fastest-growing brand in the UK in the first seven months of 2023 and sales have soared 174% compared to the same period last year.

“The upgraded Polestar 2 is the best version to date,” Polestar chief executive Thomas Ingenlath described. “With improved software, better quality, longer range and faster charging, it is the basis from which we continue to grow our business.”

The car manufacturer lifted the veil on the 2024 model year Polestar 2 earlier this year. Visual changes start at the front where Polestar has ditched the faux gloss black grille in favor of a body-colored grille that houses most of the ADAS sensors. Polestar’s designers have also had some fun crafting new wheels for the EV.

It is under the skin where the most significant alterations have been made. For starters, it gets a new 82 kWh battery pack from CATL that supports 205 kW DC fast charging and boosts the range of the single-motor variant to an impressive 395 miles (635 km) and the dual-motor version to 368 miles (592 km). A key change made to the Polestar 2 is that single-motor models are now rear-wheel drive instead of front-wheel drive and sport a new electric motor with 295 hp and 361 lb-ft (490 Nm), significant gains of 67 hp and 118 lb-ft (160 Nm) over the older front-wheel drive model.
