Has Aimgain Just Made The Perfect Toyota GR 86?

New and intriguing aftermarket upgrades continue to be released for the Toyota GR 86 and the latest to catch our eye is this kit from Japan’s Aimgain. While the kit probably won’t appeal to all GR 86 owners, we think it does a good job of adding some extra aggression to the sports car without going over the top.

Changes made to the Toyota start at the front end where Aimgain has developed a splitter that looks right at home on the car. For GR 86 owners who want something even more striking, an entirely new front bumper is also offered for the car. It adds a new blacked-out front grille with a secondary small grille running in line with the corners of the headlights. Speaking of the headlights, body-colored covers tweak their shape and give the car an entirely new personality. The side air curtains have also been reshaped.

Aimgain has also worked on the sides of the GR 86 and fitted new skirts alongside a set of five-spoke wheels. The rear end is perhaps the most outlandish thanks to the fitment of a new rear wing that doesn’t just look the part but probably also helps generate some downforce over the rear axle. An enlarged ducktail spoiler is also offered for those not so keen on the wing and there is even a little Mitsubishi Lancer Evo-inspired vortex generator on the roof. The Japanese tuner has also crafted a bold diffuser for the sports car and new titanium tailpipes with a burnt finish.

The Toyota GR 86 has been in the headlines recently for all the wrong reasons. In recent months, a handful of GR 86 and Subaru BRZ owners started to report engine failures while participating in track days. An analysis conducted by a BRZ owner indicates that oil pressure in the FA24 engine drops considerably in high-speed, right-hand corners and that this could be contributing to premature engine failures.
