The Munich Motor Show was a big opportunity for Mini to show off its updated styling, and its new, electric-first business plan. Although it focused almost entirely on the electric version of the next-generation Countryman model, it has now also quietly revealed the specs for the European, gas-powered version of the vehicle.
Starting out the lineup is the Mini Countryman C, which is powered by a 1.5-liter, three-cylinder, turbocharged engine, that will work in concert with a small electric motor. Together, they will combine to put out 167 hp (125 kW/170 PS).
That should be good enough for a 0-62 time (0-100 km/h) of 8.3 seconds and a fuel consumption of 44.8 MPG (by U.K. measurement standards). In the U.K., the powertrain will be offered in the Classic Style, Favoured Style, and JCW Style packages.

For those who want the full complement of power, the “style” can be removed from the JCW package. That bumps the displacement of the engine up to 2.0 liters, and the power up to 296 hp (221 kW/300 PS). Consequently, the acceleration time shrinks to 5.4 seconds.
While that should make for a fun ride, it may disappoint some Mini fans. As Car Expert points out, the new Mini Countryman JCW will be down on power as compared to the model it replaces. That may be a sign of Mini’s electric priorities, and means that its powertrain produces 5 fewer horses (4 kW/5.4 PS) and the crossover takes 0.3 seconds longer to reach highway speeds than the outgoing equivalent.
What may be good new for American and Australian fans is that the 2024 Mini Countryman JCW shares its powertrain with the BMW X1 M35i. In those markets, it makes 312 hp (233 kW/317 PS), though it remains unclear if the Mini model will get a similar tune up.
As we learned previously, the electric model comes with a single motor that sends 201 hp (150 kW/204 PS) to the front wheels and offers an estimated 287 miles (462 km) of range on the WLTP test cycle.
Alternatively, it can be equipped with motors at the front and rear, which offer 308 hp (230 kW/313 PS), and can get the Mini Countryman to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 5.6 seconds. This model, the Mini Countryman SE All4, is also good for an estimated 287 miles (462 km) of range.
Elsewhere, the model has grown to welcome more passengers and things, gets a new circular infotainment screen, minimalist interior design, and a sleek new look. The new Mini Countryman will go into production in November 2023. Prices for the internal combustion model will start at €39,900 ($42,813 USD at current exchange rates) in Germany.
