BMW’s recent Neue Klasse Concept introduces a bold new design direction for the German manufacturer that will soon spread throughout its range. No less than six Neue Klasse-based EVs will be launched by 2027, including an all-electric version of the M3. We don’t yet know if (or when) the Neue Klasse will spawn a coupe, but that hasn’t stopped talented designer Theottle from imagining what such a car could look like.

In transforming the Neue Klasse Concept from a sedan to a two-door coupe that could give birth to an i2, the designer started out with the current BMW 2-Series, a car that has triggered quite a lot of controversy with its dramatic design since its release.

The overall proportions of this intriguing all-electric two-door remain almost identical to the 2-Series but the different shape of the Neue Klasse makes it appear slightly smaller. This is most apparent at the front end where it looks as though the hood of the Neue Klasse model is shorter than that of the 2-Series, even though the front end is just as long and the windshield is in the same position. We also think that BMW’s decision to neatly incorporate the LED headlights into the kidney grilles works well.

The side profile of this creation is also quite a bit different than the 2-Series. The current car’s prominent shoulder line connecting the headlights to the taillights has been removed completely in favor of smoother and simpler door panels and quarter panels.

We’re not so convinced about the car’s rear end. While we still think the taillights of the 2-Series are mounted a little too low, the lights of the Neue Klasse sit a little too high.

BMW recently confirmed that all models based on its Neue Klasse platform will share similar designs in part because they are being released in quick succession. This could mean that a future two-door sports car from BMW may look quite similar to this.
