BMW published a new teaser on its social media channels, showing a coupe-SUV offering that is most likely the new generation of the X2 or the upcoming iX2 which will be its fully electric equivalent.

The short and shadowy teaser video reveals the silhouette and the lighting signature of the new model. Starting with the face, BMW designers chose to illuminate the kidney grille, with its polygonal shape being inspired by the X6. On the other hand, the aggressive headlights look very similar to the mechanically related X1, although the LED graphics will be unique to the X2.

The coupe-SUV proportions confirm earlier spy shots of the X2, marking a significant departure from the current generation which is more of a hatchback-style crossover. The rear overhang appears to be longer than before, making room for the swooping roofline that looks more similar to its larger siblings – the X4 and X6. We can also see the integrated rear spoiler, hints of the high-mounted taillights, and a little bit of the rear bumper’s texture.

The BMW X2 is expected to share its interior and underpinnings with the X1. Spy shots have confirmed there will be a coupe-SUV equivalent of the X1 M35i xDrive which makes 312 hp (316 PS / 233 kW) from the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, alongside lesser and more mainstream variants. As for the fully electric iX2, it will likely mirror the specs of the dual-motor iX1 eDrive30 that produces 308 hp (313 PS) and has 413-439 km (257- 273 miles) of range from a 64.7 kWh battery pack. Judging from the sportier character of the X2, there is a chance that BMW will refrain from using some of the X1’s entry-level engines.

BMW didn’t announce a debut date, but judging from the “coming soon” in the description it shouldn’t take long until the X2 is fully revealed to the world.
