If you’re looking to buy a 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning off the lot, you might find slim pickings as the automaker has canceled dealer orders while leaving customer orders untouched.

While that’s bad news for shoppers without an order, Ford’s Marty Gunsberg told the Detroit Free Press they’re gearing up to build the 2024 F-150 Lightning later this year. As a result, the automaker is fine-tuning the number of 2023 models they build and have “canceled some dealer stock orders not submitted as pre-sold.”

That isn’t the only thing happening as Lightnings are being subjected to “additional quality checks.” Gunsberg didn’t go into specifics, but said the issue isn’t safety-related.

Details are limited, but the spokesperson told the paper “We’ve identified a couple of additional areas where we believe additional checks are necessary as we ramp up production.” There’s no word on what those areas are, but the ultimate goal is to give customers a flawless electric pickup.

As a refresher, the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning starts at $49,995 and climbs to $91,995 for the range-topping Platinum variant. The entry-level Pro trim is currently listed as “unavailable,” which means customers have to opt for the XLT trim that starts at $54,995 with the standard range battery. It enables the truck to have an EPA range of 240 miles (386 km).

Customers can also opt for an extended range battery, which increases the price of the truck to $69,995. That’s a significant jump, but the bigger battery enables the model to travel up to 320 miles (515 km) on a single charge.
