Soon after North American specifications for the 2024 BMW X2 were announced, we now have comprehensive details about the variants that European customers will be able to get their hands on. As expected, they will have more options than U.S. buyers, most notably with the option of the new all-electric iX2 xDrive30.

Three combustion engines will be offered in Europe, consisting of two petrol units and one diesel engine. The petrol range starts with the X2 sDrive20i which comes equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine rocking a new dual-injection system and working alongside a 48-volt mild-hybrid system.

This 48-volt mild-hybrid system serves as the SUV’s starter generator and has a small electric motor integrated into the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. It alone produces 19 hp and 41 lb-ft (55 Nm) of torque and contributes to a combined 168 hp and 206 lb-ft (280 Nm) of torque. The X2 sDrive20i can accelerate to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 8.3 seconds and it is just as fuel efficient as you’d expect, consuming between 6.0-6.5 liters per 100 km or 47.1 mpg – 43.5 mpg over the combined cycle.

European shoppers also have a diesel variant on offer in the form of the X2 sDrive18d. This model is outfitted with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine that has been upgraded with new low-friction pistons, a graphite coating on the piston skirts, and an active oil separator. This variant produces 148 hp and 265 lb-ft (360 Nm) of torque and allows the X2 sDrive18d to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 8.9 seconds. This version sips between 5.1-5.5 liters per 100 km or 55.4 mpg – 51.4 mpg in the WLTP cycle. Like the sDrive20i, the sDrive18d is also fitted with a seven-speed dual-clutch Steptronic transmission that includes a feature that automatically shifts to P when the engine is switched off.

Just as in the U.S., the new BMW X2 range in Europe is topped out by the X2 M35i xDrive. Driving this model is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 296 hp and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque in European specification. The observant among you may notice that the U.S.-spec X2 M35i has 312 hp and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm), so European shoppers will have to make do with slightly less.
